This 2021 report on maternal and perinatal death surveillance in Africa needed to approach a sensitive subject with care and hope. I created collages, infographics, and layout solutions that honored the subject’s weight while foregrounding life, resilience, and dignity.
The report documented progress across 23 countries in East and Southern Africa, where maternal mortality had fallen by 49% between 2000 and 2017 — outperforming the global average reduction of 38%. It also highlighted the work still needed to prevent avoidable maternal and newborn deaths.
